Introduction to Hand-Building and Surface Design 2018
This creative and engaging class is taught from my studio at South Block on Osbourne Street, only 5 mins walk from St Enoch station.
Weekend Class 16th and 17th June
Set across two days this class covers several hand-building techniques with a focus on surface design. On Saturday you will learn coiling, slab building and pinch pots to make beautiful ceramic pieces including mugs, bowls, and vases. These will then dry over night to leather-hard consistency. On Sunday you’ll come in and refine your work, finish everything off and then begin decorating. You’ll learn paper resist, sgraffito and faceting with plenty of time to ask questions and get a really good foundation of skills.
The class runs from 11am-4pm each day with lunch 12:30-1:30pm.
My light and bright studio is in a great location with lots of lovely cafes and coffee shops around to chose from for your hour’s lunch each day and you’re welcome to bring refreshments too. Tea and coffee will be provided!
It costs £95pp including all materials and firings. To book, just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Wednesday evenings from the 13th June
Classes are limited to four people per class so it’s a very friendly, relaxed setting with plenty of time to ask in-depth questions about the methods and techniques used. The course is structured to teach a range of hand building methods with an emphasis on innovative surface design. This class doesn’t cover using the pottery wheel though there is chance to progress onto further classes covering wheel techniques. It would benefit both those with a strong idea of the decoration they would like to apply, and those who prefer more direct instruction. You will leave with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills along with several useable items such as bowls, mugs, vases and hanging planters.
The methods covered include coiling, pinch pots, slab building, slip decorating, and sgrafitto. This class is a creative, encouraging introduction to working with clay whether as an enjoyable one off or as a precursor to the Intermediate class.
The six week course costs £135 which includes all materials, firings, teaching and tools (including use of an apron!). The weekend classes cost £95pp. To book either class there’s a £30 non-refundable deposit with the rest paid on the first day.
Gift vouchers are available if you would like to book a place for someone else.
