Starting in August 2015 I joined Project Ability as a voluntary workshop facilitator. Project Ability is a Glasgow-based visual arts organisation which creates opportunities for people with disabilities and people with mental health issues to express themselves and achieve their artistic potential.
My main role is to engage with the artists on the programme and use my knowledge as an artist to provide advice or encouragement where needed. The work produced is hugely varied and wonderfully creative. As well as working with clay I support artists working with acrylic paint, oil paint, painter’s ink, print making, sculpture, drawing, watercolours and collage.
Over three hundred people each week take part in the year round programme of workshops, events and exhibitions which are held in their centre in Trongate 103 and in community venues throughout the city and I’m thrilled I get the chance to be a part of it.
